An experienced technician, was doing the annual maintenance of a large electrical installation. She started by following the Lockout Tagout Tryout procedure. After identifying the switchboard she needed to disconnect, she switched off the power supply. She attached a padlock to the main switch and placed a tag with her name and the date on it. Everything seemed to be going according to plan, so she moved on to the final step the tryout.
Installed on the door of the switch box was the display of the REMLIVE RL-24i Isolator Check. The bright display immediately indicated whether voltage was still present! Although the technician had switched off the power, the RL-24i's display was blinking brightly - a sign that there was still voltage on the installation. As a result, the technician knew she could not yet start safely. She discovered that there was a hidden power supply branch that was not properly insulated. After the extra branch was switched off, she looked at the display again. This time it remained dark - a clear indication that the installation was completely de-energised. Thanks to the REMLIVE RL-24i Isolator Check, she was sure she and her colleagues were safe, even with a complex electrical system.
This is of course a nice story, yet it does depict a real life situation! Electrical safety is an important issue when it comes to machine safety. Using Remlive's Isolator Check (recently added to the Fortress range), you can easily see whether there is still voltage on the electrical cabinet.
